EVENING OF HOPE
With poverty and hunger the two constants in the lives of the street dwellers in Kolkata, one can either be indifferent or concerned about the poor in the city.
Hope Foundation chose to be proactive. With the number of street children in the city estimated at around 2,00,000 it is worth mentioning that the non government organisation has taken up a rather challenging assignment to provide a ray of hope to those who need it the most.

City celebrities come together to sell autographs for a rupee and raise funds for needy children
For fans, it might be a token sum - Re 1 - for getting an autograph of their star, but for many underprivileged children, it can be of invaluable help. This was the idea that germinated in singer-actor Shilajit's mind whenever he performed in concerts and found himself mobbed by autograph-hunters. "I thought, why not ask them to contribute for an autograph. I've been associated with Hope Foundation for some time now, and saw them working genuinely for disadvantage children of Kolkata. I decided to raise funds for them through selling autographs," says Shilajit.

The Hope Foundation is a network of 10 registered NGOs working primarily with underprivileged children living in street and slums. Our foundation has adopted a holistic perceptive on overall development of a child irrespective of his or her socioeconomic status. So we strive to offer food clothing, medical treatment, counseling education and shelter to about 16716 children and families in Kolkata and Howrah.
In the current scenario the primary concern for us is improving upon the health service available for this section of the population. Due to the conditions of government hospitals and their quality of services secondary health care has been unfortunately neglected leading to emergency situations where the child is really very lucky to escape from Jews of death.
