EMERGENCY RELIEF
Rehabilitation and reconstruction phase of Gujarat earthquake relief, year 2001

The Hope Foundation constructed 110 earthquake resistant houses and a community hall for the victims worst affected by the earthquake through its partner NGO , PBKOJP. Around 880 people were benefited. As part of its development policy it sensitized local Gujarat NGO groups to develop income generation and educational programs in conjunction with the communities involved in the reconstruction phase. This project was funded by the Government of Ireland.
The initial phase of the relief operation involved establishing medical clinics, distributing plastic sheathing and tarpaulin to villages for use as temporary dwellings, blanket distribution, to offset the drop of 30 degrees in temperature at night.
The second phase of the relief operations involved tent distribution, mosquito net, animal fodder and food distribution. The Hope Foundation continued its medical relief programme till June 2001.
